About Opening Night

“One of the most enticing openings of the year”
- Independent

BAFTA and two-time Olivier® award-winner Sheridan Smith stars in the world premiere of Opening Night, a major new musical with music and lyrics by Rufus Wainwright, one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation, alongside book and direction by Tony® and Olivier ® award-winner Ivo van Hove.

“Every Sheridan Smith stage appearance is a gift”
- Metro

Based on John Cassavetes' legendary film, Opening Night follows a theatre company's preparations to stage a new play on Broadway. But drama ignites backstage when their leading lady is rocked by tragedy, and her personal turmoil forces everyone to deliver the performance of their lives.

Sheridan Smith stars alongside Hadley Fraser (The Lehman Trilogy), Shira Haas (Unorthodox), Nicola Hughes (Chicago), Amy Lennox (Cabaret), John Marquez (Pygmalion), and Benjamin Walker (American Psycho)

Opening Night premieres at London's Gielgud Theatre for a strictly limited run from 6 March 2024.
